Avoid Disagreements Between Your Power of Attorney and Healthcare Proxy

January 1, 2024

A durable power of attorney and an advance healthcare directive are two of the most important documents in any estate plan. Each empowers someone else to make decisions for you if you can't.

The problem: the two agents have to coordinate. If they disagree, care and finances can grind to a halt. The fix is choosing them thoughtfully — often the same person, or two people who can genuinely work together — and giving them documents drafted to work in tandem.
