Medicaid Home Care
July 1, 2023
Traditionally, Medicaid paid for long-term care in a nursing home. Today, all 50 states — including Maryland — have Medicaid programs that cover at least some home care, and in some cases family members can be paid to provide it.
Qualifying for Medicaid home- and community-based services involves the same asset and income rules as nursing-home Medicaid, plus a functional-need assessment. Planning ahead is the difference between qualifying quickly and spending down first.
